The City of Rockwell is a warm, welcoming, and friendly community located just 10 miles south of Mason City in southern Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. Founded in 1870, Rockwell was named in honor of George B. Rockwell, the original landowner on which the town now stands. According to the 2020 Census Rockwell is home to 1,071 residents, comprising 408 households and 278 families.
Rockwell offers affordable housing and a peaceful, small-town lifestyle. The community features two large parks, multiple playgrounds, a golf course, an aquatic center, and a variety of local businesses. Residents also enjoy access to a healthcare clinic, nursing home, and community center. Public safety is provided by a dedicated city police department as well as a volunteer fire department and volunteer EMS service providing exceptional service to the community.
The City of Rockwell is part of the West Fork School District and proudly hosts the district’s elementary school. The middle and high schools are located in nearby Sheffield, just seven miles away, with convenient bus routes connecting the campuses.
Rockwell’s strong sense of community is reflected in its many local events and traditions. The town has hosted several RAGBRAI stops, annual National Tractor Pulls, National Night Out events, and numerous community gatherings organized by local churches, the Lions Club, American Legion, and the Chamber of Commerce.
